good morning. 7:00 friday. finally. we're busy in the newsroom. first off there is renewed hope of finding a missing 5-year-old girl after police say she was spotted alive. well now they're hoping that a suspect in custody can lead them to her. plus the moment of truth for balloon boy's parents is just hours away. what they're expected to tell the judge about the whole thing. may be the first ever facebook alibi. a man gets out of jail because he updated his status.

first, though, this story really concerns. it appears a missing 5-year-old girl has been spotted on a motel surveillance video. but the man charged in her kidnapping isn't the guy with her on the tape. plus, they still don't know where little shania is. she disappeared from her home on tuesday. her dad made a desperate plea for her safety. >> i just ask that they let her go and bring her home safe. we all miss her and love her very much. if you're listening today, i miss you so much honey. i'm waiting for you. i'm not going to give up. you don't give up either, honey. >> this is the man charged in the case. the manager of the mobile home park where she lives says this man is her mother's boyfriend. she says he is not guilty. detectives have identified the man we saw earlier on the tape with the little girl. they're not sure of a connection

between him and the girl's family. new this morning. japan's prime minister tells president obama that his counted will provide civil assistance to help in the rebuilding of afghanistan. but prime minister says it will not allow a refueling operation for u.s. military aircraft. president obama is in japan for meetings also expected to focus on the economy. president obama's visit will also take him to singapore, china and south korea. the remnants of what used to be hurricane ida, they're a big problem for the mid atlantic this morning. here's the streets. the schools are closed. 70,000 people are without power. five deaths are blamed on the storm. here's what one reporter in virginia saw. >> i'm out here at bush. you can see where the water is well over my waste. >> you know, bob is going to tell us what to expect in the

jaycee dugard behind their home in california. president obama ordered a review to sigh if investigators failed to act on warning signs about the ft. hood subject. the fbi has said it wasn't about terrorism. so they never passed the information along. defense secretary gates warned about rushing the judgment. >> i deplore the leaks that have taken place. people who are leaking are leaking what they know. which is one small piece of the puzzle they don't know what they're leaking might jeopardize a potential criminal investigation in trial. yesterday the u.s. army charged hasan with 13 counts of premeditated murder for last week's shooting. that makes him eligible for the death penalty if he is convicted. if you were sarah palin

punishment for curtis vance. prosecutors asked for the death penalty. ann pressly was the morning anchor at katv in little rock. her mother whispered it's okay when the verdict was read. >> there really aren't any winners tonight. nothing has been done here will ever bring ann back. we'll never see her smile. we'll never hear her laugh. we'll never know the joy of her presence with us until we see her again in heaven. >> so sad. vance's mother told the jury she abused him as a child, including a beating that may have caused brain damage. balloon boy's parents are due in court this morning. they are expected to plead guilty and that the whole thing was a hoax. richard heene turned himself into sheriffs deputies yesterday. he and his wife could both face jail time. last month they said their son was thought to be inside a run-away balloon. it was pa publicity stunt.

and at the atm. maybe it's not your bank because you're traveling. you don't have the math right. you're not able to check it all the time. you may have to take some action to be involved in this. and i want to throw in a little fact that i thought was great from my good friend. americans spend more on overdraft fees than on vegetables every year. or books. that's how much money the banks make off these things. it's big time. new leaks about the possibility of an iphone coming to the verizon network. new leaks seem to be coming from the supply chain. that's a first. the latest "fortune" magazine reporting verizon users could get an iphone by this summer based on reports that apple is building a phone that could work on the verizon network.

more american adults are smoking. 21% of adults surveyed in 2008 said they smoked. that's slightly higher than 2007. but health officials say they're disappointed that the rate hasn't stayed under 20%. cigarette prices have remained steady for several years. one antismoking organization said that's worked against their efforts. a sixth man arrested in a disturbing child abuse case in missouri. a 77-year-old father and his four sons are already in custody. they did not enter a plea yesterday. according to court documents obtained by khsb the alleged victims are adults now and came forward in august. also, the sheriff is continuing searching for possible bodies linked to the case. thank you, facebook. a man arrested for armed robbery is out of jail because of an unusual alibi.

he was updating his facebook status. when the robbery happened rodney bradford was 13 miles away on the computer at his dad's apartment. bradford was picked out of a lineup. but his lawyers were able to use witnesses and the facebook time stamp to prove that he's innocent. a coach is having to eat his words after three players were arrested for attempted armed robbery. hi, rafer. >> on thursday, three of his recruits were arrested for attempted armed robbery. police say two of the men approach ad marked car, one with a gun demanding money. cops allegationedly pulled the car over where the men were inside with an air-powered pellet gun. an attorney for one man says he's innocent. the school is still

police say new video of a missing girl shows her. she disappeared from her home. police identified him and charged another man in the case. they won't say how the two men are connected. they don't know where the 5-year-old girl is. at least 16 people are dead following a pair of car bombings in northwest pakistan. 55 others are wounded. a massive 800-pound bomb ripped through a government intelligence agency headquarters. a second car bomb hit a police station south of the city.

a german man is accused of trying to extort money from cindy crawford and her husband. they were threatening to release a picture of their daughter bound to a chair and gagged. the man was deported in september. he has not been arrested yet. good morning. 31 minutes past the hour. i'm robin meade. the accused master mind of the 9/11 attacks may be sent to new york for a trial. in a civilian court rather than a military commission. multiple news sources -- the pat of japan this morning for what's being touted at his first asian tour since he took office.

we had an idea. here's what it looks like across the board. low pressure region just south of cape hatteras, the one that was really ida just a couple of days ago. then reformed and got worse once it hit the atlantic ocean. worse in terms of rainfall and wind. the wind especially yesterday, gusted to 75 miles per hour. that's hurricane strength right near virginia beach. it was extremely windy yesterday. the wind is still out there, the rain still heavy at times. coastal flood warnings we have them out there, the bright shaded greens, coastline from jersey to virginia, inland flooding, five to ten inches of rain. right now the heaviest rain around the jersey shore and just south of staten island. winds gusting to about 40 miles per hour. you're looking at winds sustained at about 35 to 40 right now. gusting to 40 miles per hour, that's why we have all of those wind advisories in effect. those are the areas shaded in yellow. any move away from that storm and there's a new one generating light snow in the rockies and light rain across south dakota, into northern parts of minnesota. minneapolis might get a shower or two. it will be on the light side.

an ohio mom is accused of taking her kids shoplifting. police say that surveillance tape shows the woman and her two children stealing clothes. but when a security guard confronts them, a fight breaks out. now, police say that two more adults got out of the getaway vehicle to join the melee. the adults were arrested. the 8-year-old boy and 10 year ole girl are many protective custody. for the first time in nearly 15 years more american adults are apparently smoking. the cdc says that 21% of adults surveyed in 2008 said that they smoke. that's just slightly higher than in 2007. but health officials say that they're disappointed the rate hasn't stayed under 20%. cigarette prices have remained

overdraft charges at a store with your debit card or at the atm. sometimes you're using a different bank's atm and can't see the balance and you get it wrong by, you know, just a couple of cents or something and hit with a huge fee. so you may have to take some action, keep your eye on your mail but just talking about the debit card transactions so it's still there and nothing to do with your checks, checks will still clear if you have that protection and you'll pay the fee. a lot of people seem to think they wanted that kind of a service. thanksgiving is coming. and if you're cooking, you do all the -- buying the stuff, it could cost you just a little bit less this year, $43 for 10 people according to the american farm bureau. they took an averaget biggest reason, milk prices are cheaper. turkey, too. one thing that's expensive, pumpkin pie. if it turns out wasting your time on -- turns out that wasting your time on facebook can pay off.

the grand prize? i give you now lindsay. your answer was to the question that we asked our first week of the contest which was something along the lines of what's been the biggest obstacle to you obtaining your own self esteem or self confidence and you told us about a problem you had with an autoimmune disorder? >> i have a rare skin disease and it definitely took a lot of me. i deal with the fatigue problem that is come with the autoimmune deficiency and i get sick a lot but, you know, other than that i'm pretty good. the skin died down more than it used to have. >> you look fantastic. >> thank you. >> something about your appearance when you were younger, the kids tease you about? >> yeah. my skin would essentially look like -- essentially look like just a cracked desert almost. it was very red. very dry. and it used to cover 80% of my body. all over my legs and arms.
